Camil Alimentos buys Brazil pasta maker Santa Amália from Alicorp

Pastifício Santa Amália is also a supplier of sauces and condiments to the retail sector.

Brazil-based food group Camil Alimentos has acquired local peer Pastifício Santa Amália from Peru-based manufacturer Alicorp.

Pastifício Santa Amália, headquartered in the state of Minas Gerais, is a subsidiary of Alicorp Holdco España and Alicorp Inversiones. The transaction has been initiated for BRL260m (US$48.3m) and Camil, based in the municipality of Itaqui in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, will also assume ownership of the acquired company’s debt of BRL150m.

Camil, which went public in 2017, said in a stock-exchange filing the deal is subject to approval by Brazil’s competition body, the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE). In the meantime, both companies will operate independently.

While Pastifício Santa Amália is best known for its range of pasta, the company, founded in 1954, also manufactures sauces and condiments, cakes and desserts, parmesan cheese and fruit juices for the retail channel.

Last month, Camil entered a deal for Agroindustrias Dajahu, a rice producer in Ecuador. It purchased the assets and brands related to rice production and processing owned by Dajahu through its local operation Camilatam Ecuador.

Founded in 1963, Camil supplies products such as rice, beans, biscuits and canned fish, including the brands Union and Coqueiro. It has subsidiaries in Uruguay, Chile and Peru, with brand names such as Saman, Tucapel, Costeno and Paisana.
